  1. get a tank. A large garbage  can will work. Fill it with water, put the prob in the tank and run the engine. Always make sure it has enough water. A boat engine is water cooled.

    keep it cool.

    lol

  2. We use the "muffs" hooked up to a hose where I work You want to make sure the water pick-ups in the engine aren't clogged or the water will not flow properly through the engine which can cause it to overheat. Hook the muffs up to the pick-ups, turn on the hose & make sure the water is flowing. THEN, start your engine. Make sure the water is being pulled through the engine. If you see that it's not coming through, immediately shut off the engine to prevent damage.

  3. Bring a plastic barrel (55 gallon) that you can fill with water for an Outboard motor(hangs off the transom), or some "earmuffs" for an Inboard/Outboard motor (engine is inside the boat, drive system goes through the transom).

Outboard:  Stick the outboard lower unit in the barrel filled with water and fire it up.

I/O System:  Put the earmuffs on the lower unit around the intake of the outdrive on an I/O, connect to a garden hose, turn on the water, and start it up... but don't run it too long like this... sometimes a garden hose does not provide enough water flow to correctly cool the engine.

    Hope this helps!

  4. The barrel method works.

So does an old horse trough.

I use ear muffs on my engines. Secret is don't blast the water in, use a easy water pressure.
