  1. Well if it's fuel starvation, check the fuel system.

If it sticks at 2000rpm then check the VRO warning horn is working. The get you home system limits rpm.

  2. The easiest way is to have someone squeeze the primer bulb while you are trying to run it. If it picks up with the bulb being squeezed you may have a bad pump. If your engine has sat a while then carbs would be my first suspect. You may consider running it on a seperate portable fuel tank to make sure you are not dealing with a fuel tank issue in the boat.

  3. I doubt your  vro pump is the problem. if you believe it is a fuel problem its most likley the carbs. run the engine at the rpms it fails and and push in on the primer(most think this is a choke) every time you push in on the primer 10 cc's of fuel per 2seconds (approx) are injected into the intake when the engine is running. if this enriches the engine enough to pick up rpms than the carb(s) are at fault. if not check elsewhere. most problems like this are simple synchronization and linkage adjustment problems. they need to be done exactly as the service manual shows. if you need to check the vro pump there is a procedure that uses clear tigon tubeing on the discharge side of the pump. there are pressure specs in the manual as well as output. the oil side measures oil volume consumed. but try the primer trick first its easy and usually solves the problem. you might want to check your fuel system vent as this is often overlooked, and can cause fuel starvation(creates vaccum in tank) if you suspect a fuel problem the person who suggested using a portable fuel tank is dead on I run all fuel suspected engine problems on a known good tank this saves alot of wasted time just remember this engine requires 3/8 minimum inside fuel line dia. and run with a loose cap on the tank to ensure proper venting.

  4. Are you sure you don't have too much prop. ?? A prop with too much pitch will hold your rpm's down.
