How do you thank someone who recommended you, and got you a new client?

I'm a teacher. I teach Spanish as a second language, and English as a second language. I sometimes translate documents, but not very often.

Out of the blue last week, I got a call from an old friend. I was told an American accounting firm would become partners with a Mexican accountin firm. I they needed a translator for the meeting for 2 days.

I didn't charge cheap. In 2 days, I made what I usually make in a month of teaching classes.

I'm a guy, and my friend is a male too. How should thank him? With a dinner? With a gift? Or by not doing anything since he's a guy?

A thank you gesture is definitely in order. He got you a client, so you owe him that.

Since he is a guy, and a work related acquaintance, perhaps a Mont Blanc Pen would be great. Or a pass to a good game. Depending on how big a client you got, maybe a good golf club. Something that a friend would do for another guy friend.

I am a man, and IMHO, a dinner would be too much of an intimate gesture, it would look kinda g*y. Not that I am against g**s or anything, but telling you what that would look like.

Well good for you ...you did well,but thanks to your friend.

Well l guess you thanked him sincerely for his recommendation,so l think a gift perhaps.He may have an interest in a sporting team where you could get him some souvenir clothing or if he has certain hobbies,something associated with that.

Depending on what price you were looking at, you could send him a season golf pass for a course.  Or send him two passes for a round of golf.  Or if you live in the same city, take him out for golf and dinner.  

If this guy hates golf, send him dinner passes.  Or invite him and the wife out for a nice dinner.

Or, send forth a bottle of brandy or port.
