I do a good job on chores and make A's and occasional B's in school. I think I can handle a bird, but my parents just keep saying no. I want one because I really like birds. my friend has a green cheek conure, and I love it! I think if I buy it with my own money, there shouldn't be a problem.

Ps, Im 12 years old, girl.

  1. Well, try being a little devious.  Find a scroungy old alley cat.  Bring it home and ask if you can keep it.  Cry & carry on when they say no, but finally give in.

That ought to soften them up so they'll be willing to let you have a bird.

    ;)

  2. You sound like a very nice person. If you keep it in your room and keep it fed and watered and cleaned up they shouldnt have a problem with it unless one of is alergic to it once it is in your home.

  3. hmmm... usually you shouldent get parrots any age under 16 because interest is lost easily. parrots are a HUGE responsibility. and dont get anything other than a budgie or tiel if its your first bird. they need up to 4 hours of attention a day hundreds of dollars on cages and toys, and alot of household things can easily kill your bird, like teflon pans, candles, and cleaners. no more air sprays, perfumes, candles, non stick pans or  smelly tissues. have you done your reserch? you have to reed up on the bird you want so much, all the information  you learn is very important. dont buy a bid on impulse. also, what if the bird you get isnt friendly? or is REALLY loud? what if it gets a disease that costs over a thousand dollars to get checked on at the vet? im 14 and i have two birds now that are healthy happy and very tame. and there all mine. i did fine with them. mabee you will too? im looking into getting a jenday conure that costs $756 and the cage costs $300 and the toys and $200 4 supplies. im paying for it all with babysitting money... my mom said that sheed rather get me a macbook air. im torn, but im still getting the bird. we could chat more on this, because id hate you to purchase a bird you cant properly take care of or let die... its sad how many birds are at my local bird refuge. all owned by people that couldent afford, or want to take care of the bird. some birds live a very long life. will you be still wanting the bird when you graduate, or in highschool hangin with your friends? you need to spend a ridiculouse amount of time with them... if i where you, i would read up about this bird ALOT after you decide the one you want. i have a cousin that just randomly wanted a bird. now its always in a corner, neglected, alone, scared, never taken out. i go over too keep it company , i buy its toys. i change its food and water. sad huh? so youd better know everything about this animal before you even think to look for breeders or pet stores that sell it.

as for convincing your parents, no means no.
