How do you think Shakespeare challenged Literature?

There was very little literature in his day that was available for the general public, they got their literature in the form of oral tales, and plays which were community based.  But he not only challenged literature, he championed it!  Many of the words we use in the English Language Lexicon, are words that were coined by Shakespeare.  He was a remarkable creative person.  His plays are legendary, but his poetry is incredible.  Why do you think there are two different types of sonnets?  On of them is called a Shakespearean sonnet, I'd say that is very influential!  Wouldn't you!
