  1. Most likely they migrated by sea from western Melanesia and southeast Asia, starting about 3000 years ago.  These peoples were great seafarers, and had well developed celestial and other navigational skills.  Here is an interesting site that discusses some of the cultural history of the people of Hawaii.


  2. During the last ice age they crossed the ice bridge from California.

    Of course by boat.

    I have read by people that study the languages and culture it was probably outrigger canoes from Tahiti

  3. They have proven that the Polynesians were capable of building boats that could carry them to Hawaii. Do a search, and you will find that they re-created one of the vessels and actually sailed it to the Hawaiin Islands.
