  1. Stanley Cohen's Folk Devils and Moral Panics is a must read for this topic! - He argues that media continually support a culture of fear. Its very presence in the media serves to highlight that, yes certainly many teenagers commit crime, are anti-social etc but the media is prepared to argue all teenagers are and society is largely ignorant of the emergence of teenage subcultures and why such a subculture is adopted. Cohen used the study of Mods and Rockers and documented societal reaction to their emergence on everything from their clothing to their organised fights. He argued that the media exaggerated the perception of subcultures or a specific group as being a threat to society which spread a culture of fear and panic.

  2. They put America's morals out of whack......they make it as if s*x, money and status are the most important things.

As long with how beautiful you are, and how much you weigh.

    Very superficial.

  3. negatively, if it's positive the media is short to notice and quick to dismiss.

  4. Most movies and TV shows that are geared for a teenage audience are only watched by that age group.  The only media that makes any real impression on me (I'm in my 50s) is the news.  Unfortunately, my view of teenagers is that they are doing a lot of dangerous things (car surfing, choking game, etc). and are much more sexually active than my generation was--so STDs are a real epidemic.  Bottom line: the media gives the impression that teens are very angry and some are out of control.

  5. by showing the stupid kids 98% more than the mature kids.

  6. Media is a strong tool. If used properly it can do miracles. Else its a disaster.

Right now its a disaster. Basically teens think Media is right and Media is exact replica of society which is not true. They talk about it and they base and compare them selves to the characters from media. It is hampering the society.

  7. By allowing the teenagers to believe that they can make a difference. Example: Ninety-five percent of the teenagers I know want to vote simply because they can. They don't know squat about the candidates or who they use to be just that they want to vote for who ever has the best clothes, gender, skin color, or religion.

  8. The media does so by only sampling a few teenagers and drawing conclusions from the information got.The media also knows that society has a bad attitude towards teenagers so they tell the society what  society  wants to hear. And this has led to teenagers accepting that brand and behaving the way referred/branded them.
