  1. I believe that the most dangerous aspect of media and society is that we are being programed to get our info in two to three minute bursts or less.  People rarely think for themselves or read anymore.  We would rather have all of our info spoon fed to us.  We would also rather have some one else tell us how to think instead of researching an idea for ourselves, getting all the facts and forming an educated opinion.  This way we don't have to take responsibility if we are wrong.

  2. The media is ruining the society because it portrays a negative  aspect on most issues.  They always present the worse side of stories.  They degrade people and present the worse moral standards.  The media has taken the personal aspect of life and made it dirty, obscene, and disrespectful.  They have numbed the people to the right and good things of life.

  3. By the constant bombardment of advertising. They make us feel like we are all plain looking and dowdy if we don't buy their products or look like the new anchors and actresses.

It's awful. Now there is an epidemic of anorexia and bulimia because of people making so many comparisons. We were never meant to all look alike.

Don't get me started on this subject, because it upsets me. But thanks for asking. Smile.

  4. The media seems to be controlled by the powerful and rich now, and the braindeads that make up 90 percent of the world are going to fall into whatever they say. The news is now biased towards what the government wants you to hear, and dumbass TV shows are constantly being put out there to diminish the IQ of the young people, so that the middle class has no more critical thinkers left to see what is going on here. We are in a secret tyranny, the rich lead the poor and middle class, and the media is there to make sure that this will never change. Enough about the government and all that, let me go on to the media and society. Society today is sleazy, materialistic, filthy, whorish, dirty, and many more words that are in comparison with filth.  As a teenager myself, who has a strong mind and does not get swept up into all this garbage, I see it clear as day everyday in school. People being persuaded into buying 100 dollar socks because they feel like they HAVE to buy their clothes from the HOTTEST brands or else they'll die. Kids of only 14 years of age thinking they need to have s*x every day and act a certain way to be cool. All of this is effected by the media, it has gotten out of hand, and I am extremely scared for my future in this brain dead world that we are becoming. It all starts with the MTV's and all the other stations for the absent minded. And it's just going to get works. It all starts with the media.

  5. As a counter-argument, (even though I do agree with a lot of the issues the media poses), I would like to just throw out there that our access as public individuals to the media nowadays gives us more of a say in our democratic society. I mean, it used to be just big-wig producers and journalists had access to what is circulated through the media, but now because of new internet tools and what not (like blogs and online forums and discussions, youtube, etc.), people are able to speak their minds and that creates a free environment that promotes scholarly argument, discouraging apathy and ignorance of the people around us. So we are getting somewhere with the media, if it is the good kind!

  6. For starters, my step daughter thinks it's socially unacceptable not to be s**y and bitchy. She rolls her eyes in impatience when I read the bible to her! My stepson can't understand the concept of being an island unto yourself! He'd rather have people around him that don't even like him. My 4 year old is always telling me what kids are supposed to do!? And I limit his T.V.!! Don't even get me started on adults!! Somehow bad things became good, and good things became bad. People who don't have strong minds or influences will fall right in the trap. We as a people have to ask ourselves who wants us to act this way?? I know, do you????

  7. It is always simplistic to say that "the media is ruining society". If you're conservative, you think the media has a liberal bias, and if you are liberal you think it's conservative. I see racism, sexism, violence and consumerism as major problems that the media contributes to in important ways, while someone else might say "the decline of family values", or whatever.

Almost any social problem a person might perceive is a problem that the media has some role in. In general though, I think the media tends to amplify and distort changes that are equally evident in other parts of society. The media is not so much able to "cause" problems but make them worse.
