my strings on my tennis racquet have become very loose and i cant control most of my shots. Is there any way to tighten them with household items and not buy new strings? (household items include a garage full of working items. e.g pliers, lazer ligner, etc.)

  1. No.  Don't even try anything if you don't want to damage your frame.  There is no way to tighten the strings that are already on your racquet.

Just spend the 20 bucks to string your racquet.  Buy the cheapest strings you can find a d**k's or something.  The price you see comes with the stringing.  If the strings are old enough that they've lost that much tension, they probably should have been replaced long ago anyhow.

  2. Because the strings are tightened sequentially there is no successful way to tighten them after they've slacked.

A fresh set of strings will keep the racquet frame in constant tension. If the frame isn't in tension (i.e. really loose strings) or if you attempt to tighten the strings asymmetrically it can deform the racquet by putting it in differential tension.

Not really worth it, just shell out the $20-30 for some new strings =D

  3. i have the same problem with my strings, but the only cure is to get the racquet re-strung. depending on the strings you use, it's not too expensive. it costs me only around $10 to get it re-strung and around $6 for new strings. but if your strings become loose a lot; when getting the racquet re-strung have the stringer increase your string tension a bit (not a lot or you could break a string if you're a hard hitter).
