How do you track down an internet poster's real identity and location?

Question

Say someone on a message forum or a place like youtube is posting threats of some sort. Is there anyway I can find out who he or she is? What kind of information can I get, and how?

I'm guessing you'd start with the IP address, but I don't know how to get that, or if it's even worth anything with dynamic IP addresses.

That'll find their IP, then open up Google Earth and satelite right on top of their house.
