How do you track down car vandalism?

My rear windshield was broken last night but nothing was taken, so it seems it was done by somone in anger. I have already talked to the police obviously, but is there anything I can do to track down who may have done it? I am probably going to set up some servailence cameras on my property from now on (or some solution using a webcam and laptop), but I am still worried this will happen again.

What have you done when this happened to you? How can I avoid this? I don't keep anything worth anything in my car, this was just a random act of vandalism. I don't think I have angered anyone, and I am just not sure what to do right now. My garage has only 2 spots and my dad and mom park there. I dunno how to avoid something like this short of a car alarm, which may do nothing but wake me up when it happens.

  1. Unless you have a witness or someone admits to this,   you are stuck for the price of the glass repair.    Check your insurance policy or call your agent,   many policies have special glass provisions.

Any type of camera that can record this type incident happening would be welcomed by the police.    If they can identify the perp,   they can charge them and you can ask the court to order restitution.     There are cameras available that can be hooked to motion detectors as well.    Won't stop vandalism,  but makes the scum easier to catch and increases chances they pay for their actions.

  2. Theres really nothing you can do to track down who did it.

And not necessarily out of anger.

When i was younger, me and a friend just decided to break all the windows on a SAAB we saw. Just for fun.

Security cameras are a good idea.

  3. I purchased an inexpensive CCTV at lowes about two years ago because of the neighbors kids farting around my vehicles and I caught them.

I first showed the video to their parents and some of them no longer bother my vehicles mainly because of good parenting but the parents who said that they could nothing about this, I just went to the police department and showed them the videos, guess what no more problems from them as well.

The whole setup was only about $200.00 with a TV and it was worth every dime, good luck.
