you need to get national dex first. insert emerald. start you pokemon diamond. on the main menu where you have continue, new game etc. select migrate from emerald

well you need to have the national dex first in order to get pokemon from other games. insert the other game and on the main menu of pokemon diamond, it will say migrate from like emerald or leafgreen. in the other game make sure the pokemon you want to import are in your party/team. you have a more chance of comming into your diamond game.(they will start to appear in the wild) other way is in the palpark. you need surf to get there. at the bottom of sandgem town surf and keep going down and them east (right) the pal park actually imports the pokemon so you can catch the imported pokemon right there so you don't have to look in other places in the game. tip in the  pal park: know what type of pokemon you want to import and where they like to hang out (grassy areas or on water) that's the place you'll mostly find them.
