How do you train a horse to lame lope ?

  1. The question is, why would you want to? People may be getting away with those ridiculous four-beat lopes in the western pleasure ring right now, but that's not how a wp horse is supposed to move. It's not attractive in the least and I'm seriously hoping it's a fad that will eventually go away. People need to start making a stand against it and get western pleasure back on track before the discipline gets ruined completely.

    Show some respect for the sport as it's supposed to be... do a proper, collected lope. Use half-halts to ask him to slow his pace down but keep him moving forward. A good collected lope is beautiful and relaxing to watch and the horse will not look like they're lame.

    The point of western pleasure wasn't intended to be who's horse is the slowest. It's about a quiet, relaxed horse who's comfortable to ride at all gaits and is comfortable performing those gaits. You can't tell me a lope that looks like the horse is limping is comfortable to ride or comfortable for the horse.
