How do you train to run a faster 40?

right now i run about a 5 second 40. i would like to run it like in a 4.6. how do i get faster? any training advice?

  1. Run in sand.  Run with weights on your ankles.  If you can, run with a parachute or on a bungie.  Any kind of resistance is good.  Otherwise, sprint stairs or on hills.


  2. Just pump your arms from your pockets to ears and drive your legs through while it happens. Also you could try hitting the gym a little often to work out your muscles. Plus, don't just stick with one distance to run with, you should do about 3x 55m, 3x 100m, and 3x200m since it's better to get a good idea of how much you actually have to run.
