How do you transfer the footage from your video camera onto a laptop?

I know how to plug the cord in, etc, but what do you do then? How do you actually download it? Where do you go? Do you have to click anything? I need help Please!!!!!!

  1. You need to have a program that can capture the video from the camera. Windows Movie Maker which comes standard with Windows XP can do this. You just open it up via Start Menu and click Capture Video.


  2. This very much depends on the kind of camera you have. What kind of memory does it have? Did it come with a disc to install a program? Does anything pop up when you plug it into your computer and turn your camera on?

  3. You need a program to capture your video from your video camcorder. For Windows, its Windows Movie Maker - File > Capture Video, and it will capture the video.  If you have a Macintosh - then iDVD will do the trick as well, go to File and there's a similar feature that captures video for you.

    Make sure you have enough hard drive space as video needs bigger storage space.
