My grandfather came over from Lebanon in the early 1900's and his name, pronounced "Shawneen", was translated at Ellis Island to "Shannon". Does anyone know how to write this in either Arabic or Aramaic?

Thanks,

Pam

but i don't know its meaning may be it relates to his own hometown.

Most of the arabic surnames relate to the family hometown or the profession of the great great grandfather of the family , like the name Carpenter or Mason in your culture they ave their equivalence here

  2. I'm sorry that I don't know, but I can tell you that "Shawnee/Saunee" among Iroquoisan people means "people"
