  1. x + (x+1) + (x+2) = -18

    3x + 3 = -18

    3x = -21

    x = -7

    x + (x+1) + (x+2) where x = -7

    -7 + -6 + -5 = -18

  2. Even integers are integers that can be divided evenly by 2, for example, –4, –2, 0, 2, 4, ... An even integer always ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.

    Consecutive integers are integers that follow in sequence, each number being 1 more than the previous number, for example 22, 23, 24, 25, ...

    Consecutive integers can be more generally represented by n, n +1, n + 2, n + 3, ..., where n is any integer.

    n+(n+1) + (n+2) = -18

    3n + 3 = -18

    3n + -18 - 3

    3n = -21

    n = -21/3

    n = -7

    therefore -7 + -6 + -5 = -18

    try it on your calculator... it works...

    hope this helped!

  3. well if your sum is -18 then you know your answers are going to be negative numbers.

    make x be your first unknown negative even integer.  you want your negative x and then negative x minus two and negative x minus four

    x1= x

    x2= x-2

    x3= x-4

    you know all three need to equal -18

    solve for x:

    -18= -x + (-x-2) + (-x-4)

    -18 = -x-x-2-x-4

    -18+2+4= -3x

    12=-3x

    12/-3=x

    -4=x

    then plus x into the first problem.

    x1= -4 = -4

    x2= -4-2 = -6

    x3= -4-4 = -8

    so your integers would be -4, -6, and -8

    check:

    (-4) + (-6) + (-8) = -18

    let me know if you have any questions.

    EDIT:  Just so you know, the first answer on this is correct but the method she uses sometimes would take awhile.  The rest of the answers above mine are wrong. They're either not consecutive EVEN integers. Or they don't equal -18.

  4. (x)+(x+2)+(x-2)=18

    x=18/3

  5. Its pretty much a guess and check.

    I started with -6+-8+-10

    but that was too much so you guess again

    -4+-6+-8=-18

    so your integers are -4 -6 -8

    Get it?

  6. okay so you can make the first number

    x

    since the second number is two more than x because it has to be even it will be x+2 and then the third will be x+4

    so you can make that into an equation like this:

    x+x+2+x+4 = -18

    simplify that too

    3x + 6 = -18

    subtract 6 from both sidess

    3x = -24

    divide by three

    thennn

    x = 8

    to find the other numbers you go x+2 and then x+4 and the answer will come out to be........

    8, 10, 12

    Once you know how these questions are acaally fun.
