i work at the library, so i often have to carry huge stacks of books. recently, my left wrist always seems to be in pain. it hurts whenever i move it and it's so weak that i can't even carry a book with that one hand alone. my friend, who works as a supermarket cashier, also has this problem from repeatedly scanning heavy items.

how do you treat this type of injury?

  1. It sounds like it could be carpal tunnel syndrome.  There is surgery available but I wouldn't jump into that just yet.  Get yourself a firm wrist brace, one that will keep your wrist in neutral alignment.  Wear it when you work and when you sleep if you can.  This will immediately take any pressure of the nerves.  You can also take a course of Ibuprofen which will calm the inflammation and help with the pain at the same time.
