How do you treat herbs in the winter? will they grow in the ground? if in pots do you bring them in ?

  1. Depends which herb...

    Basil is very tender and will die in cold weather. It will grow nicely in pots.

    Mint and chives die back each year but come up again in the spring. Chives do well in pots, too.

    Thyme and sage will last through most winters.

    Rosemary is quite tender and will die in temperatures below about 25. I have mine in a big pot I bring in each winter.


  2. I think it depends on the plant.  I planted rosemary and sage last year and both came back in the spring.
