  1. on most of the strings, strumming on the fifth fret should sound the same as the string below it played openly.  For example, the low E string played on the fifth fret would sound like the A string being played openly.  On the G string though, use the fourth fret instead.  You could also get an electronic tuner.

    Its good when you cant buy a tuner.

    You can also install In-Tune. its a website, there is a 30 day trail, thats what I keep using and for some reason even after my 30 days were over I'm still able to use it :]

  4. there are several interactive websites that will give you a pitch for each note. turn the peg corresponding to the note until it matches the pitch being played on the computer. do for all strings.
