How do you tune a ported box?

I have a sealed box right now because i'm all about sq. but, to my understanding, a ported box can also sound good if it's tuned low. but I dont know how to do that.

i have built many competition cars for sound quality & Db drag racing as well &in my 23 yrs i have never heard a ported box that works anywher near as good as a sealed box,if the box is right cubic litre,made out of 18mm minimum craftwood,glassed in side as well &the sub seals properly you will have the best box you can get.dont waste your time &money on a ported box.

Typically a ported box will be about twice the size of the required sealed box.  To tune the enclosure, you can adjust the size (diameter) of your port, the number of ports and/or the length of your port(s).
