How do you turn off a built in web cam?

So, my laptop has this web-cam, built in. But when im on IM most of the time i don't want people to see me && i just want to see them. How do i turn it off so that when i get a request i don't have to worry about blocking the cam. etc.???

Put some blue-tack on it

I think there should be an option in the web messenger you are using to turn off your webcam. If not, you can check if there are settings in the Control Panel for it.
