How do you turn on the SSl security feature.?

I was told by AT&T that I need to turn this program on so my info I send is safe and my e-mails also, but I can't find anything in the help section, it's suspose to show the little lock in the corner. some one please help

  1. SSL is a method of encrypting internet traffic.  Often, but not exclusively, it is used to encrypt web traffic.

    If you want to go to a secure website you change address from:

    http://www.somewebsite.com

    to

    https://www.somewebsite.com

    See the difference?  https instead of http.  That tells your web browser to expect a secure site.  Not all web pages support this, but you should expect it any time you are entering sensitive information such as  a password or credit card number..

    If you are using something other than a web browser (email for example), there may be an option in the application for secure traffic, but its hard to say without knowing the exact application.  If the application does support SSL, it will be probably be enabled on the same page you configure your user name and password or the page where you specify the server it is connecting to.
