How do you turn on the component channels on a HD-TV?

I have a Panasonic Viera, model - TH-37PX60U and when I press the TV/video button on my remote, it won't let me select the component channel.

Also - some televisions are smart and wont let you select an input unless you have something hooked up.

Pressing the TV/Video button multiple times will allow you to scroll down the list of inputs and select the component channel you wish to watch. Each time you press this button, your TV will scroll to the next input. Just make certain that you have started your video source before you use the TV/Video button to make your selection. With the component video source active, your TV will display the video approximately 2-3 seconds after you have selected this channel with the TV/Video button.
