Question:

How do you turn someone in who is on disability but faking it?

Our neighbor is on disability for a nervous disorder and claims that he can't work so he is on full disability. Yet, this man can drive his motorcycle all over and lay under vehicles and fix them at all hours of the night.

He works on cars, rides a motorcycle, goes fishing, and bow hunts. In the fall my husband comes home from a long day of construction work at night and the neighbor gets out of his truck in full camo with his bow. If you have a nervous disorder you can't be doing all that he is.

Also if he can work on cars at home why can't he do this for a shop somewhere and be a benefit to society instead of a drain on it.

I am not saying that people on disability are a drain on society. It is the people who fake it and use the system. I have had friends who were disabled and denied because they didn't believe a 30 year old woman had rheumatoid arthritis along with other things.

My question is where can you turn someone like this in? There is no reason this man can't work.

  1. Get him caught on tape and turn him into the police or somethingg!

  2. A good place to start would be to make a video and take it to his past employers - if they still work with the same workman's compensation insurance, they might be interested.

DIsability unfortunately has become more about who can fake iit best. I work in a hospital and I have people coming to ER because they sprained back plying basket ball and they were disabled because of arthritis for 10 years!

  3. go to ur local social security disability office and report it to them.  my old roommate was like that she collected social security and worked under the table.

  4. I can tell you right up front that disabilities dont come in neat little packages, nor do disabled people all have stamps on their foreheads that they are.  Seems like you are angry because he doesnt have the same lifestyle you do, and are going to do your part to make sure you take it away from him.

Mark my word, disabilities are not clean or neat, not always  visible or easy to understand.  I see your point but I also think you are assuming WAY too much about your knowledge of his disabilities...and frankly, is that your business?  Or could you be a better neighbor and be less hateful?

The more I read your posts the more evil and angry at the world you seem.  Frankly, why dont YOU get a job and quit worrying about what he is doing, instead of fixating on him.

Edit: lol, yep, yer furious at the world because its not shaping up exactly like YOU want it to and you are going to make him pay h**l because your granny and friend didnt get disability. People like you are annoying to the rest of us that ARE disabled.

  5. Let me play the devils advocate here for a minute. You say he has a nervous disorder. Most people with nervous disorders do not do well dealing with crowds of people, public situations. That may be why he cannot work. The things you describe him doing are things he is doing by himself therefore his anxiety level is probably low at that time.

Disability doesn't just mean you are totally unable to do anything.

EDIT: I totally agree with the guy right below me. You have no right to say that there is no reason this man cannot work. You need to mind your own business. This makes me angry because my mom had cancer for nine years and was on disibility and had a handicapped sign for her car because she could not breathe very well. She didn't "look" sick though so therefore people thought it was just fine to make ignorant remarks when they would see her park in the handicapped spot.  So just because he looks fine to you doesn't necessarily mean he is. Why do you want to cause him trouble?

EDIT 2: Even if it is a condition with his nervous system. I would think that stress would make his symptoms worse, and working can evoke stress. Maybe his condition is unpredictable. You aren't his Dr. The more you say the more your hateful personality shows, get a life and leave your neighbor alone. What do you think that you will acomplish by complaining about him? Do you think you are going to change the system? Do you think he will be forced to get a job?

If he has worked previously in his life he has paid social security therefore he gets money based on what he has paid in towards SS. You seriously need to find something to do.

Why don't you be an advocate for people that get denied disability like your grandmother, someone you care about instead of your neighbor, someone you obviously resent?

  6. If it is SSI Disability, you can contact a local office. They want all sorts of info from you though. Worth a try.
