How do you type an underscore on a mobile phone?

When I try to access Yahoo Mail from my mobile phone the system does not recognize my login name. I have an underscore in my login name and I use the _ character on my phone. Has anybody had a similar problem? How can it be solved? I make sure my caps are off so that is not the problem, it's the underscore. Thank you!

hit * button, then it will show you some characters. One of it is the underscore.
