It's a dual sink, and both sides are filled up with water. I'm not sure what to do, I used a plumbers snake, but that didn't help much. How do I unclog it?

  1. Get a plunger.  Put the drain stopper in one side, and a towel over it and have someone push hard on the towel, while you plunge the heck out of the other side.  Someone will have to really push down hard on the other side to keep the air from the plunging from coming up in that drain, and having the air plunge down to whatever is making the sink clog.  Good luck.

  2. use a plunger, take a rag or the basket strainer and plug one side up than use the plunger  on the other side. make sure you have a good plunger and go at it .it will take some  elbow grease but you can get most clogs this way .don't ever pour a chemical into a drain that is clogged and than  plunge it, that is stupid and dangerous .

  3. dual drains but they both actually go down to the main.  take as much water out as possible and then add professional drano gel.  let it stand for at least 30-45 min.  carefully close one side of the drain with a stopper and use the plunger on the other side.  be careful not to splash cuz you are really not suppose to plundge with the drano in.  anyways if that does not work wait till the draino slowly goes down and fill with water so that the pipes below is mostly water.  you will have to use wrench to take off the elbow and use snake into the pipe that goes into the wall.

  4. you claimed you used a plumber's snake but didn't help much.

this tells me it's a soft grease stoppage.

you either didn't go far enough, or the snake went through the stoppage only to close back up.

with that being said, get the snake and work it back and forth while running water to break up the sludge.

nothing works better than "THE CORRECT SIZED SNAKE".

do not use acids.  try the snake again and keep working at it.  it's probably grease or something soft which requires working the snake back and forth until you get the results you want.

  5. Is this the kitchen sink?

If so, then check the outside perimeter of your house. On your house wall you will notice a large circular cap (about 2"-4" in diameter) that has a plus sign in the middle of it. Think of a top of a s***w that needs a philips screwdriver, it looks like that.  The cap will be located up to a couple of feet high or so from the ground. You can get the tool needed to open it at your local home depot or lowe's store. The tool looks like a "T" with a large philips screwdriver at the bottom of the "T".

This cap is connected to your main drain line. Once you remove the cap, a lot of water, grease and garbage will drain from the cap. Stand back, it will be messy. Purchase a water hose attachment which is made of black rubber which expands in the middle, and place it on your water hose. Feed the hose line into you drain line as far as you can get it and slow turn the water on to full blast. Keep a hold on the hose and try to shove the hose in and out a few times. This will also be messy but should break the clog in your main drain line.

Shut off the water hose and place the cap back on securly. Then heat a huge pan of water up to just under boiling and pour down the drain to help remove any excess grease, etc and to check to see if the line is truelly unplugged. If it is, great, you are done. If not, then it's time to call a professional.

  6. unscrew the pipes on the bottom and clean out the pipes

  7. If a snake didn't work, sounds like a job for a professional. I would not use drain cleaner. I would use one of those high pressure plungers that you can get at your local hardware store.

  8. take as much water out as can then pull the drain apart to see if theres a clog but have a bucket ready for the water because you will get wet.most clogs are in the elbow after you get it clean keep it clean with baking soda and vinger .if you have to run the snake down the opened end of the pipe after you take it apart.

  9. put the stopper in one side of the sink and put a plunger on the other end and plunge it continually if you have a garbage disposal run it at the same time as plunging it. should loosen up drain clog if not you will have to remove trap.

  10. FIRST TROUBLESHOOT.

is this a kitchen sink or bathroom sink?  If its a kitchen sink,

Check to see if anything is in your p trap under your sink by taking it loose.  You may do this by hand if plastic or if metal you may need pliers.  If not, hook it back up.

If the kitchen is located at near an outside wall you may have a cleanout plug behind the kitchen on the outside wall.  If your kitchen is in the middle of your house it may be under your sink.   If so uncscrew it possible if not you may have to chip it out with a hammer, flat head screwdriver if its brass.  once you have taken the cleanout plug off you can then run water in the sink to test.

If water comes out the cleanout then your kitchen drain is stopped up beyond the cleanout.

The best and sure way to unstop it is by renting a roto rooter with an 1/2 cable and feeding it through your cleanout under or behind your sink.  You can also try sulfuric acid.  Just be sure to stop up the sink with towel so the acid wont get back into you sink.  You can also buy a ridgid hand auger 1/4 x 25' from home depot for about fifteen dollars and run it through your sink drain.  Last purchase a tool that you hook to your waterhose and stick it about a foot downward in your cleanout only and pressurize it .  ( this will only work in a cleanout)  if u dont have a cleanout u can still run a rooter through by taking the trap loose  if u are not dealing with lead pipe u wont have a problem getting the machine to go downward.    If its a bathroom sink take the trap loose a and run a 1/4 x 25' handsnake through the drain.

  11. PLUNGER IT AS IF IT WAS A TOILET.
