Question:

How do you unclog this sink problem?

For about a month now anytime you use the kitchen sink all the water ends up in the basement sink. It's clogged so we have to remove it by hand. I have used two "Liquid Plumber,Snake" bottles nothing. We plunged (not while the liquid plumber was in it) and nothing.

The water is making my basement smell horrible plus I can't use the washing machine and with three kids you know I've had it. Please if you can suggest something that I can do with this sink in the meantime I would really appreciate it. Thank you. I can't afford a lot at this moment.

  1. you need to have your sewer lateral line cleaned.  If you take a full stride, that usually measures about 2.5 to three feet.  Pace off the distance from the corner of your house that is closest to the basement sink, and go to the middle of the street in front of your house.  That's an estimate of the number of feet they will need to clear.

Then call ready rooter, roto rooter and any other drain cleaning companies you find in the yellow pages and ask for pricing on that number of feet to clear the sewer lateral line.

    Good luck!

  2. From your description, its not the sink thats the problem.  sounds like the pipe from the house to the sewer/septic is clogged, probably with roots.  You need to clean or have power augered (the best option) all the way from the basement cleanout to the street or septic.  Its gonna cost, somewhere around $200 but will solve your problems.

  3. What you can do is to take off the goose neck under the sink. It normally clamps on. Wash it out with warm water and then try it again. Most of the time there is something stuck in the goose neck.

  4. The only thing I can suggest with what you have mentioned is that you have a clog somewhere from the basement sink(the trap) and possibly after the washing machine. I would guess/bet it's past the washing machine drain; between the machine drain and the main sewer line that connects to the main line that exits your home or where it connects at a Y adapter to the main sewer line. Those pipes are small in diameter so it doesn't take much water to fill em' Soap residue can build up and cause the problem here if these pipes are built up with allot of crud.

Remove the washing machines drain pipe and snake the lines that waste dumps in; in both directions. Towards the upstairs and especially in the direction of where the machine drains to the main junction.

  5. if the basement and such is backing up...its not the sink.  you have a blockage further down the pipe, maybe outside the house.  tree roots often grow into your sewer lines.
