How do you unlock the ignition switch on a 2002 Ford Taurus

It's an automatic with the gear shift on the console.

car in park turn the wheel back and forth as much as it will turn after it locks up while pullin the key. itll come out

Make sure the shifter is all the way in park and the key should come out, if not then you have a problem in the ignition switch cylinder or the linkage somewhere in the column. If the key will not come out you can remove the steering column cover and push the release pin located on the under side of the steering column with the key in the 'on' position and the entire key cylinder will come out for repair/replacement.

The previous post could be correct.  There is another possibility and coming from the rental car industry I have seen may times where Soda pop or sugary coffee gets spilled on around the gear selector (center console selector.)  In which you actually have electrical/mechanical lock out for the gear selector and If you can't get the gear selector to securely seat in the park positionon than your key won't come out and and its not the ignition switches fault.  It could be a bad shift interlock swithc or a bent shift pin. bot are located under or around the shift selector...

yup ,, you could try every answer ,and if it doesnt move to unluck position.,,,remove lower panel,check the small solenoid on top of the column,,this guy move a lever so you could unluck or lock your key,,,feel the end of the solenoid and help it move while you turn the key

I don't know if you have a problem are that the steering wheel is just stuck ,i see this a lot ,If this is the case you will need to put your foot on the brake and wiggle the steering wheel as much as posibile and as your doing this you most be wiggling the keyback and forth.Get rough with the steering wheel ,and ido mean rough.
