Any workman here? We use a spanner to tighten or loosen a s***w nut. However, what if the s***w nut is in a hole and the spanner is too long to fit across the hole? How so you unscrew the nut? Are there any special equipment? Please advice. Thanks.

  1. Socket wrench?

    That's what I use.

  2. If you cannot find a spanner that will fit, and cannot modify (i.e. grind or machine) a spanner to fit, you might be able to use a pair of long nose (or "needle nose") pliers by pushing the points into the holes in the nut.   If it's not too tight, you might be able to hold the nut or even turn it.

Just be prepared for what happens if the pliers slip, because unless you modify the tips to fit securely, they very well may slip and pinch the h**l out of your fingers or damage the nut or surroundings.

  3. theres a few ways i do at work...either get some threaded rod and put a piece in it, take some channellocks and tighten it down and put two nuts on the other side of the rod and make the nuts tight together and unscrew it out of the wall like that...or some needle nose pliers work..its hard to explain but easier in person soo sorry if i got you confused goodluck

  4. it is normal to use  either a 'socket' or if very deep a 'box' spanner. The former is a short ( you can get 'long' sockets but they are called 'deep')

six or twelve sided sort of spanner  driven by a square drive.

the 'box' spanner is a thin walled tube which is shaped or moulded to  take  a nut and has  six sides  IE hexagonal to fit a deep seated nut.

often used in cars to change a spark plug.

  5. There are several ways to get it out. I like using nut drivers because they are thin walled and can fit in those holes most of the time. How ever if you can not find a socket or nut driver to fit you can use a screwdriver and put it on the corner of the nut and hit the top of the screwdriver on thangle you need it to loosen. Be advised that this method will damage the nut.
