How do you upload a video on a digital camcorder to your computer?

I linked my camcorder to the computer with a usb cable but nothing came up...

I don't think you can capture video with jus a usb cable.  You'll need a fire wire port installed on your computer if you don't already have one..  They are like $20 bucks
