How do you upload videos from your video camera to your computer?

my dad has this camera and I don't know how to upload the videos to the computer. I'm just wondering you also need some sort of plug-in for it. Also if you have a couple videos on one tape can you cut them up into the videos on the computer because on the video camera it's just one video in the whole tape.

Hello....

well.. "this camera" your dad has is really very vague info:-). because different type of cameras use different uploading. Since you talk later about "tape" I assume that it is older type like VHS-C or perhaps Hi8 = analog camera.

For that you need a capturing device...

Either videocard with composite or S-video input (depends on the output of your cam) or -if you do not have such a videocard and do not want to upgrade your computer- a device plugged into your USB port.

There are many of them on market from a bit over $20 up to several hundred $$. This is just one example:

but you can find your favorite for your budget in every local computer store or eBay - just look for USB video converter.

Then you plug the cam AV output into it and open ANY video editing software. If none came with your capturing device, you can use Windows Movie Maker, but ANY will do - navigate to "capture" section, find NOT your cam, but the capturing device in video source list, play the movie on the cam and capture into computer.

Then edit, convert in VCD, SVCD or DVD, burn and enjoy...:-)

As for the tape with multiple clips - if you have good computer and big hard drive - capture whole tape and then cut in separate videoclips in editing software. If you have older computer with smaller disc, then simply play separate clips on the tape, capture and burn separatelly.
