In addition to what Bill G wrote, some Sony digital camcorders have a "pass through" feature which allows them to act as an A/D converter.

The Sony CCD-F201 is an 8mm camcorder. It is analog so there is no USB or firewire port. There is an AV port - you would normally use this with a cable that came with the camcorder to connect directly to a TV.

You will need an Analog/Digital bridge. If your computer has USB only, the Pinnacle Dazzle is one example. If your computer has forewire, Canopus makes good A/D bridges.

The camera connects to the A/D bridge with the AV cable. The A/D bridge connects to your computer with USB or Firewire. Import using MovieMaker (Windows) or iMovie(Macintosh).
