How do you use a UPS? ?

I got a ups from somebody I know for free and I don't really know about them. Does it only connect to computers or can I use it for other things? I tried to use it for the things at my desk such as my computer equipment and my fan. My fan didn't turn on or anything. I know that the UPS works but I don't know how to use it. Does it have to be charged or something?

Look up the model # on the manufactures web site and get the user manual for it.  Or you can email the make and model and i can give you instructions.  Pretty much you plug it in, press the button that has a circle with a vertical line in it, on/off and it should turn on.  As far as what you can hook up to it.  Stay away away from putting Fans on a UPS.  You want to keep it with constant loads.  Also the internal battery needs to be checked.  If its no good it can split and crack and caused many problems  Hope that helps
