How do you use a horse whip?

me and my best friend have been goin horse riding for quite a while, we have both just bought a whip and were wondering if any of you could tell us how to use 1. our riding instructor said we could use them but she never told us how! please help!

a whip should only be used in cases where the horse is not responding to any other aids it has been given.

u need to work on giving the correct aids before you will ever need the use of a whip!

U must hold it in the hand that's in the inside of thee aren but if u are on an out ride it dos'nt matter. u must hold it over your thigh and then give the pony a tap just behind your leg your on the neck.

You basically hit them on the bum with it to make them go faster x Personally, I think they're cruel.

hi,

when in the school/field put your whip in the inside hand resting it on your thy. when hacking out it should be in the hand nearist the road. you can either use it on your horses neck or the horses bum. you can use it if the horse hasn't responded to your use of legs. Only use it if you need to.

I have a suggestion....why don't you and your best friend practice slapping each other on your rear ends with your whips and leave your horses alone!

Yes as a person that has trained for over 35 yrs there is a  need for them ONCE IN A WHILE

But when your young NO

your teacher should teach you that you have to try harder to get the job done WITH OUT ONE

Its a AID not a source of punishment like a spanking



I would say throw them away learn how to UNDERSTAND YOUR HORSE BETTER

AND TO  BECOME A GOOD RIDER & TRAINER WITH OUT ONE

Get a new trainer

But really girls get a new trainer No real good trainer teach's  kids how to use a whip,,,,

just your body and legs Good horsemanship is better then a whip

no one should ask a child to carry a whip

until they know how to use them and when and why and the results BAD that can happen if used wrong

They are YOUR LEARNING TOOL AND they are not for kids to use just like spurs

If a horse wont go Then LEARN how to make him go WITH OUT THE WHIP

Yes I let my older students use one on the shoulder but No where else If you whip your horse like the other said on his back end he just might buck you off ???????

I have been horse back riding for going on 60years, in that time I have never used a whip. What are you jockeys?

If you are being instructed properly you would know that you use your heels to tell your mount what to do. Forget the whip, your heels will do the job.

when you are on the horse have your whip in the hand that is comfatable for u have the end pointing behind and have hold of the rubber part.

when you want your horse to canter etc, getnly hit it on the side if its back leg or top of bottom.

if ur house horse still dunt move hit it harder etc but not to hard!
