  1. You probably already use them in your head, just don't know what they're called.  It's a way of grouping together numbers in a list.  Consider this list:

       12, 24, 17, 18, 22, 24, 16, 26

First, you group it (in order) by the tens digits, teens and twenties:

       12, 16, 17, 18      and     22, 24, 24, 26

Then, you write a "1" for the teen numbers, and a 2 for the twenties (their tens digits), followed by a list of each of their ones digits.  It should look like this:

        1 |  2, 6, 7, 8

        2 |  2, 4, 4, 6

If you had any thirties, you'd write a 3 followed by their ones digits.  Not so bad, really.

  2. what grade are you in i ???

    learned that in first grade
