If you tie your own on to the pole, just bait it up and fish.

If you use premaid snelled hooks, use a snap swivel or swivel to tie it on...bait it up and fish.

If your talking about "snails"... I couldn't tell ya

Snelling is a method of tying the hook onto your line or leader material.  When done properly it increases the hookup rate by causing the hook point to turn out when being pulled from a fish's mouth increasing the odds of a corner mouth hook up. I like to enter the eye of the hook from the same side the point is on (a must) then tie a 5 to 7 loop uni-knot.

take your hook, and thread it throught he head of the snail. make sure the hook faces upwards.
