How do you wash a pillow? I have a few that have gotten really gross and dirty, and I feel icky just sleeping on them. We're planning to replace some of them soon, but until we do, is there any way we can clean them? Are there different washing instructions for down pillows vs. synthetic fiber pillows?

Thanks!

  1. Pillows are cheap, buy a new one. Unless you have a designer pillow then you should put it in the cleaners.

  2. I wash mine 2 at a time on the gentle cycle.  You might want to put a clean tennis shoe in the dryer with the pillows to fluff them up.

    All my pillows are synthetic.

  3. There should be a tag on the pillow giving you instructions on how to wash them. I am not sure about down pillows. But others you can wash in cold water on the gentle cylce. After it is done you might want to put the washer on spin an extra time or two to get as much water out as you can. Then put them in the drier on a low heat and check them every 10 minutes or so. Once they are almost completely dry I set mine out in the sun to finish drying.

  4. Machine wash on gentle cycle two pillows at a time. Place in the dryer with a tennis ball or two. Remove throughout the cycle and fluff and rearrange the filling. You will know when they are dry when there are no "clumps" of fibers stuck together. Be careful with washing down pillows, they tend to stink after wards.

You can also buy a pillow case protector that zippers around your pillow. They sell them at Wal-Mart in the pillow aisle. Good luck!

  5. I think you can just put it in the washer

then like hang it out to dry

i dont know if it can go in the washer so im not ganna tell you to do that.

  6. Put it in the washer

  7. Polyester, foam, feather and down pillows can be hand-washed with a liquid detergent in cool water or machine washed, preferably two at a time on a short, delicate cycle in a tumble-type machine. They should be thoroughly rinsed.

Pillows other than foam can usually be machine-dried on low heat, unless otherwise specified. If they're feather or down, put a couple of tennis balls in the machine to fluff them.

Wet pillows can weigh quite a bit and even do damage to the dryer. Be sure to ring out the pillow really well before putting in to tumble dry. Throw in a clean tennis shoe to fluff the pillow and to keep the load balanced.

Washing is tough on pillows. Wash a pillow once every couple of years if you use a zip-off pillow protector. Wash the pillow protector frequently.

The temperature for the water should be at least 135 degrees to kill dust mites.

Put pillows in the freezer to kill mites.

Fat, fluffy pillows were once a sign of prosperity. OR VIST THIS WEBSITE!!!!

  8. Soiled pillows can cause eye infections. I suggest you place them in the direct sunlight, as this kills many bacteria, in just a few hot minutes.

  9. you must freeze it before u wash it

  10. very carefully

  11. Use a front loader wash machine.

Add some gentle detergent or liquid type.

Add 1/2 cup of bleach on HOT water temperature

  12. I wash mine all the time. Just was like anything else, toss them in the dryer with several tennis balls or some tennis shoes (clean ones).  The tennis balls bounce around on the pillows to help fluff them up.  They may take a while longer to dry than normal laundry, but it is well worth it for clean smelling pillows.

  13. down pillows are best to be professionally cleaned, foam you can wash .

Use liners to protect pillows ,this way they will stay cleaner and drool free .
