I am new to snowboarding and want to know if this can be done by just buying some wax and a sharpening tool and do it yourself or if i should leave it to the pros.

  1. If you want to wax your board yourself that is not a problem it is fairly easy if you buy a waxing iron. There are many tutorals online that can help you with it with no problems.

    thats a super accurate tutoral

As for sharpening your edges that can get messed up fairly easily leaving you with burrs and uneven edges. Try and get your hands on a file that has a guide and put that to work. The guide will work well and you wont mess up your edge like you can with a flat file.

My suggestion would be to buy a dakine tuning kit thats what i have and my stuff is always perfectly tuned and its super cheap.

  2. basically you can do both yourself, theyre fairly simple and you can find flawless instructions online.

however... you can also get it done professionally done and the pros will always do the best job.

personally... i have pros do my last wax of the year and do all of the others myself... and sharpening i always have the pros do

  3. Go to youtube. and type in ur same question.

theres at least a hundred videos of tuturials/instructons that show and tell you what to do.

  4. i wax my board by myself but all you have to do is get wax at a shop. put wax paper over a iron and drip it on your board so it is even

  5. Take it to a shop once a year to do it and have major base repairs made. Sharpen or dull your edges as you need to for rails and tables. Hot wax your bases every 2-4 days of use, until the base is saturated, then you can wax it a day or more longer. Do but the edge tool , but the an old electric iron will do fine for most of your needs. If you are a professional competitor you should learn to do all of these things on a regular basis. As you improve and become a sponsored competitor, the sponsors may start to tune your board for you, but you still need to know how to DIY so you know what it has done to it.

  6. The waxing can be done by yourself, you just need a flat iron(DO NOT USE REGULAR IRON, WAX WILL GET IN THE HOLES), scraper and some wax. Brand of wax doesn't matter so much, but pay attention to the temperature (some are rated for higher temperatures [low 30's high 20's] and some for lower temps [sub 25ish]) Da Kine has a full set up with iron, wax and scraper for about 45 dollars, and that will pay itself off in no time.

Sharpening you can do, as long as you know the angle you want to take it to. It's a fairly inexpensive tool, and worth it.
