Please dont give me any bs about the best way to win is not to fight at all. OR dont fight. I dont plan on fighting any body just need this information. Most mma schools teach you how to fight from a boxing stance when you and your opponent squad up. Ive been in like 17 steet fights and one school fight. And none of out fighting have ever started from a boxing stance. It started with your opponent in your face talking smack and then he pushes you and the other guy swings . And the both throw flurries of wild punches .

  1. It's all about speed and timing man. You gotta hit the guy first and you got to do your stuff not just fast or strong but at the perfect time. Don't even listen to what the guy trashing you is saying. Just watch for body movements and non-verbal cues the way cops do.Try not to look like thats what your doing. Thats how Bruce Lee would do it. If this is just martial arts **** to you and I don't fully under stand or you all ready new that then sorry. Also the other guys are saying good sh## too.

  2. katana has it all right.

  3. "When two tigers fight, one will surely be hurt... and the other dead."

    No one wins fights.

By the way, nice comments about coming from the 'streets.'  Anyone who REALLY comes from the streets probably doesn't go on Yahoo answers to ask about fighting.

That's  a lot of anger you have.  Maybe you should relax and enjoy life for the beauty of it, and try not to get into fights all the time.

Deep breath, kid...  Take a deep breath.

That’s because both don’t know how to fight. Just because it doesn’t start that way, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. You need practise. Just doing something, doesn’t guarantee you’ll be a master at it in no time.

“Also please dont give me any bullshido about keep your guard up and punch and never drop your guard. I try fight with my elbows tucked my guard up and that might work if your fighting more long distance but if you are very close to teach other it wouldent work. I learned that the hard way and got my asss knocked out. Because i was so worked up on form and tecnique and this guy was throwing fluries of punches haymakers hooks and i got knocked out. And i have martial arts experience that was a few years ago i havent been in any fights lately but i am a much better fighter now once i ditched some of the traditional martial arts advice i recived through the year i might crane style i wish someone would pull that on me in a street fight”

Rofl, you picked out the problem right there. You were so worked up on form and technique, which means that any tips I give you will be pointless. You need practise and you need an instructor. If I told you to back flip could you do it?

“On the discovery channel they got random "tough guys" of the streets and put them in a ring against a black belt in brazilian jujistu tae kwon do and karate. The tough guy won every fight so what dfoes this tell you about martial arts ?”

Then why the h**l are you here? This is a MARTIAL ARTS section. Helloooo? And anyway, CITATION NEEDED!

“Katana17 you come from a lilly white neirboorhood i come from the streets. What happens when you walk away from a street fight everyone will jump on you for being avoiding the fight. And i dont have a ego problem you are the one my friend with the ego problem. Most martial artist think they are so high and mighty with thier virtues and morals . You have no idea what its like where i live or where i use to live and where i live thier is no back up out to show mercy to the one you love to allow his enemies to live when you can strike them down this is not comppasion it is a beytrayal to your lives very purpose i will knock you out katana17 you are a martial artist most martial artist dont even know how to take a hit.”

How the h**l would you know what neighbourhood he comes from? You don’t. You’ve already made up your opinion of people who think differently to you. Bloody h**l, you need to work on your grammar. I can barely understand what you’re saying. Sometimes people end up in situations where a fight is unavoidable and that’s understandable, but Martial artists aren’t being high and mighty when they talk about virtues and morals. They’re trying to teach you virtues and morals. What happens if you win a street fight and the other guy comes back with a knife or a gun? Do you honestly believe that things don’t escalate? I don’t know what it’s like but I have a friend who does and he’s told me this exact same thing. He’s been able to avoid fights as much as possible and hasn’t been afraid to take a beating when he knows he should just let them beat him instead of just fighting.

Oh but ofcourse you're just going to shake your head and think I'm lying aren't you? To be honset I think you're lying a lot as well. I bet you keep losing all those fights you've been in because you have no idea how to fight which is rpoven by the fact that you're asking martial artists how to fight when you think martial artists don't know how to fight.

Most martial artists don’t know how to take a hit? You’re in a martial arts section. How can you possibly expect respect when you don’t give anyone else any? And even if you could beat him (which I highly doubt) it wouldn’t make a difference. He’s still right.

  5. i agree with katana,i would also add that you obviosly dont know the difference between self defence and fighting.i would also add that you obviously wouldn,t know shittt from clay, and you should change your name to richard cranium.

  6. well it sounds like you got it figured out...

  7. fights never start from a combat stance(well almost never) its why you train attributes and practice techniques to the point where they become automatic responses, if you have to think to do the move then its useless in combat. so basically train moves until you can do it drunk, asleep, druged, stunned or unconscious then its good. remember if you think to do a move its already taken too long

  8. You've got an answer for everything.

Look, I don't care about your circumstances. You're not going to win a fight with more than 1 other guy without training to fight that way. The military has an appropriate attitude toward learning anything: if you want to get better at X, do X.

The way guys train in the dojo isn't effective. You can't use techniques to win a fight. You're going to get hit. There's no such thing as a stance unless you understand the principle behind it.

I'm going to tell you the same thing I tell every other kid who shows up on here asking this same question and claiming to be "from the streets": Run. Find your opening, shove past/through the weakest point, and run.

    "But he has a gun."

Most people with guns don't bother to learn to properly use them. Shots miss at statistically similar rates at 3 feet as at 21 feet. Put cover between you and the gun, especially his friends.

"But he's an olympic athlete with 47 gold medals and a really fast sports car."

Guess you've got a problem. Hide in a dumpster.

Honestly, the easiest way to get out of it is to not get in that situation. If it looks like it's setting up that way, bolt before the shove. If you've been beaten down as often as you claim, you should have a pretty good idea of what it looks and feels like for it to be coming.

And, in the future, don't ask questions then complain about the answers or answerers. That's just rude.

  9. Reported.

  10. swing wildly like a girl with your eyes closed, that seems to be the general technique for street fighting.

Just grab the person and take them to the ground, its probably gonna end up there anyway, and if it does you REALLY wanna be on top.

  11. sounds like u got most of it figured out, but personally, knowing how to actually box (throwing accurate, powerful punches, and moving around to avoid getting hit) would help. Also, keep in mind, this is a street fight, not a boxing match, so feel free to wrestle, throw elbows and headbutts, kick, and don't be afraid to fight dirty, remember, the point of a street fight is to beat the other guy, not impress some judges or play by any rules.  The flurries do work, but you'll be surprised how fast it can tire u out, go with flurries if u know u can outlast the other guy, otherwise, either wait till he gets tired and knock him out or use any of the other techniques I've mentioned.

  12. yea he asked you people not to give him the bull about the best way to win is to not fight. Blah blah blah there is no winners in a street fight. Go thump your bibles and shut up. Here is what you need to know about a real street fight. You must first always assumes its for your life and that the person is flat out trying to hurt you if not kill you. Your only objective in life in a street fight is to survive it. Forget the concept of win and lose. Street fights are about life and death. You have to fight anyone that attacks you on the street with the the belief that they are willing to break your arm, you leg, to break the teeth right out of your head. There are no rules about kicking, punching or whatever. In a real fight you kick them where it hurts, you punch them, grab them. You gouge they're eyes, you pull hair. Sorry but the truth is everything illegal is the only legal stuff in a real fight. Do what you gotta do. Choke him out and get the heck out of there. Do whatever you gotta do to survive and get out of there, that's what you do in real life. Oh and yea your right its not gonna start in a boxing stance he's gonna rush up on you or blindside you before you know its even going down. The purpose of stances in classes is to build leg strength and sadly most martial artist are to uptight to admit it but you gotta throw away the garbage of it and find out what really works on the street.

  13. just punch him right in the face. it will hurt

  14. look up Geoff Thompson.www.geoffthompson.com/ he has thing called  The Fence that will help you when your opponent is in your face talking smack. geoff is a former doorman

  15. My thing is tell them as soon as any confrontation starts that if they do try to get in your face, as soon as they come within distance your gonna take it as a threat and start swinging...

"look man if you come any closer towards me im assuming your trying to fight and im going to lay you out"

Fair warning for all around that you feel like his approaching you is a threat and in a threatening manner, thus you get the first hit and it was all in self defense.

  16. you want to know how to win a street fight? fight smart(fight dirty). Kick the ball, target eyes, ears, neck, fingers, knee caps. Use dirt to rub into other guy's eyes. grab something hard and beat the **** outta him.

  17. "And none of out fighting have ever started from a boxing stance. It started with your opponent in your face talking smack and then he pushes you and the other guy swings "

You should not let anybody get that close to you in or before a real fight, if you think they are going to start swinging.

If you've been in 17 street fights, you should know better than that by now.  You're right about how the fights

start off.  So, since you know that, you have to maintain distance.  If you can't move back, move in a circle.

Use your training.  The boxing and TMA stance work will apply here.  Keep some air between you and your

attacker.  You know the drill by now.  They try to get up in your face, one or both of you shove, then it's a bunch

of haymakers, wild hooks, or a tackle.

"And the both throw flurries of wild punches"

    Yep.

Keep your eye on the idiot while he postures as you look around for something to hit him with.  If you have nothing to hit him with, hit him with the ground.  Learn a few simple throws.  Get a green belt in Judo.

"Also please dont give me any bullshido about keep your guard up and punch and never drop your guard. I try fight with my elbows tucked my guard up and that might work if your fighting more long distance but if you are very close to teach other it wouldent work. You were probably expending too much energy on that.  Keep the hands up without being tense.  Plus you answered your own

question.  You were so focussed on being in Should Land that you forgot about Is Land.  That's nobody's fault but

    your own.

"but i am a much better fighter now once i ditched some of the traditional martial arts advice i recived through the year i might crane style i wish someone would pull that on me in a street fight"

I wish they would too.  Don't be surprised if crane-fighter-person still wins the fight.  Why?  Because some martial artists are also street fighters.

"On the discovery channel they got random "tough guys" of the streets and put them in a ring against a black belt in brazilian jujistu tae kwon do and karate. The tough guy won every fight so what dfoes this tell you about martial arts ?"

Some of the random tough guys may have had martial arts training.  Also, there is something to be said for strength, as in raw muscle. Some people also have a natural talent for fighting, much like Fantasia Barrino can sing without having a PhD in Music.  I know you respect bouncers and body guards, right?  Lots of those guys have some martial arts training.  Can you tell me what the name of the program is?  I'd love to see it. As much as I love TMA, I also like to see TMA'ers fight non-TMA'ers so that I can steal some ideas.

"You have no idea what its like where i live or where i use to live and where i live thier is no back up out to show mercy to the one you love to allow his enemies to live when you can strike ....."

OK, I know you keeps it real, whoadie.  If its that bad, you need to invest in things like

    a) brass knuckles

    b) a roll of quarters that you carry in your pocket.

The roll of quarters is a good one. You can keep that in your pocket without anyone knowing that you put it in your fist to make your hand heavier.  I know a guy who specialized in the roll of quarters and in using lamps and ashtrays.  He used to be a karate guy.

  18. This type of question and attitude accompanying it are what is rapidly turning me off of helping out those few serious people with real questions.

This question is not what should be supported in this type of forum. If you want to know about streetfighting or any fighting for that matter go to some other website and talk with other cavemen.

The first thing you need to really ask yourself aside from the absurdity of your question is... Is there really anything I can learn about physical behavior from WRITTEN WORDS? The answer is no. You cannot learn how to "DEFEND" yourself from reading.

Go to the gym and learn MA, which includes but is not limited to boxing, etc.

Your rant on Katana 17 is unwarranted as you just didn't like his answer. He has answered sensibly to many questions on here and as such is liked by "us" "mightier than mighty" Martialists. His answer for avoiding the fighting at all costs is the right one, because you never know, you could end up dead, or the other guy might. All it takes is one lucky punch.

Talking of others as they've not experienced hardships when you don't know them from adam/eve is unintelligent.  You will find out as you get older (if you don't kill yourself or too many brain cells) that fighting is dumb and can be avoided most if not all of the time.  The only thing that cannot be avoided is a situation where you must implement self defense. YOU ARE CAUGHT BY SURPRISE AND MUST DEFEND YOURSELF OR DIE.

I've spent several years doing drug interdiction and antiterrorism, search and rescue, and of course I've been in many fights having my life threatened in my lilly white neighborhood. The last being a guy visiting trying to stab me.

I will let you know that I have reported both you and the Ozzie guy twice each.

  19. Thats becuase generally two idiots getting in eachothers face dont know how to fight at all.  Yah usually anything "from da streets!" is extremly pathetic in forms of fighting.  I would say dont fight at all not because fighting is wrong but becuase its pathetic and undignified.

  20. I feel like I should bow down to your infinite wisdom.  I think that you have convinced me that my Kung Fu is worthless on the street.   Oh, wait.  I think I have that backwards.  Tell ya what, if you want, you can pick a guy (i doubt you would be willing) and have them come visit me.  We can even go outside and fight on the street if you feel more comfortable there.  (I will need you to sign a piece of legal first - so you don't sue me if I win)

It all comes down to how you train.  The bulk of Martial Artists in America train for tournaments or point sparring.   Those who have tend to have less "real world" fighting skills.  To be prepared for anything, you need to train for anything. That means no pads, no rules, full speed, full force.

  21. Sorry nobody wins a street fight. Street fighting is stupid. rather then be on here asking how to win one, you should be on here asking how to control your temper, or asking how to develope your ego so you do not have to fight to compensate for a small ****.

I seriously doubt if you have ever had any proper Martial art training in your life, except for watching you tube fights and anime, otherwise you would not be fighting to protect your ego, which judging by your name is pretty big anyway lol. It is a simple thing. When someone gets in your face, defuse the situation and don't fight. If one person refuses to fight there will be no fight. Simple huh?

No fight=Not getting kicked out of school or charged with disorderly conduct/assault=No lawers fee's or court costs=not getting grounded from your parents when they have to pay said legal fees=no civil suit or hospital bills=WIN.

Grow up and get a life and realize in the grand sceme of thinsg your junior high problems really aren't that big.

  22. You must fight from pidgen toe stance and throw quick punches using your chi to your opponents vital points
