How do you work pivotal seat posts?

Question

Im not sure how to work pivotal seat posts on bikes. Im getting one with my bmx bike and im not sure how im gonna put it together. Im just concerned, would I be able to to tilt my seat so the front points up? and are pivotal seat posts the one you tighten with a nut?
