Question:

How do you write a good poem?

I really love to write, but never have the time to finish whole stories during the school year, so I would like to write some good poems. I have a really good idea, but when I re-read what I have written, it sounds very ammature and like it was written by a child. The sentences seem to simple. Here's an example:

"It's a primal feeling, passed down from years long gone,

A peaceful melody, nature's song.

The river trinkles quietly by,

and the trees stretch their arms up towards the sky.

The clouds drift lazily into the blue,

And everything old once again feels new."

I like the beat of the AABB or ABAB rhyme schemes, so I would like to keep it that way.

  1. poems can be anything you want them to be.

use all the senses: taste, touch, feel**, sight, sound, smell

feel is very important, feelings and how something can feel, mentally.

    I've been a poet since 5th grade and I'm 15 lol.

    yep.

just write how you feel.  describe everything.

make it melodic, entrance the reader, adverbs are always good!

    lol.

and your poem above doesn't look too bad.

    use lots of big words.

go to rhymezone.com if you need help on finding a word to rhyme.

  2. I like it. Just write what you know, use flow and rhyme, use complicated words to rhyme, adjectives.... just paint a picture with your mind. Lol.

I'm just basing this off of the good poems I've read. I'm not good at writing poems, I write songs.
