  1. The differences in the consecutive y values are 5, 3, 1, -2, -3, -5

    The differences in these are -2, -2, -2, -2 , -2, -2 so when these second differences are equal you have a quadratic so x^2 is in there.  Notice then that the y number is always 1 higher than the x number squared.  That should give you the clues you need.
