I have to write an essay about the conclusion of owen meany by john irving. They wanted us to write about the closure of it and discuss the ending, if it was appropriate or unapporopriate to the conclusion of the story. so this means that i don't write the summary. which would have been easy! anyway, i was hoping to get some guide on how i would write this sort of essay. any guideline or suggestion for the topics or ideas for the essay would be appreaciated!

  1. I would write it in this manner:

Your thesis would be "The conclusion of the novel, Owen Meany, by John Irving, was a (suitable/not suitable) ending, and (provided/did not provide) enough closure through the following examples: (list at least 2 depending on the amount of body paragraphs)."

The two body paragraphs would reflect the examples listed above, which you would need to analyze and explain as to why they made the ending of the novel suitable or not.

The conclusion would just recount everything, like a normal essay.

  2. Even if you're focusing on the conclusion, you can still kind of summarize. You'll need to reference/ summarize the events of the book anyway to validate your points about why the ending is appropriate or not.
