So how do you write wall or kabe in Japanese?

  1. There are a few ways to write "wall" in Japanese. "kabe is probably the most common.

    In hiragana "kabe" would be written as かべ.

    In kanji "kabe" would be written as 壁.

    There are also a few more specific words for certain types of walls. For example a "brick wall" is "renga bei" and a stone wall is "ishi gaki".

    "renga bei" is written as れんがべい in hiragana  and れんが塀 in kanji/kana (there is a way to write "renga" in kanji, but it's not commonly used).

    "ishi gaki" would be written in hiragana as いしがき and in kanji as 石垣.
