  1. Hiragana:

    Kanji:

    ~there is a う in sayounara, right after よ.

    さよなら looks tacky to me.

  2. Chris is right. Both, さようなら and さよなら (without the "u") are acceptable ways to write "sayonara". To me さよなら is less formal and more conversational sounding than さようなら, so the one you choose depends entirely on you. If you were just writing a letter to a friend then I would use If you were writing something more formal then I would use

    So, you could write either

    or

    "gomen ne" would be ごめんね.

  3. Just answering to back up 田中。

    There is a う in  ÃƒÂ£Ã‚Â•Ã£Â‚ˆã†ãªã‚‰.

    Beau

    Edit:

Beau C is wrong. Sayonara without U is not incorrect at all. It's a shame that two of top contributors didn't know that. I know that Japanese learning books have been teaching SayoUnara but Sayonara is more said in Japanese for sure.  SayoUnara sounds a bit too much in spoken Japanese and sounds like studied Japanese which doesn't sound natural. People write Sayonara in their Emails or informal occasion and if you google Sayonara with U and without U, with U hits far more pages.
