My son got caught stealing buy himself at meijers a pair of 10.00 ear phone buds. Do you think grounding him the whole summer from everything was to much or not enough? He's always been a good kid except for the occasional bad attitude and smart mouth. Should i be worried about this in the future?

  1. beat the sh*t outta him

  2. I'm only twice 14 myself, and i dont have a boy or girl YET, but your punishment is only fair if the lesson is remembered and the punishment is always associated with the 'crime'.  If those two conditions are met, and the punishment is not abusive in nature, then the punishment is fair --for your house and rules--, and not necessarily anyone else's.  Having said that, I would also watch for a trend in behavior.  If his schoolowrork is starting to be ignored or down in a lazy manner, if any chores he has start being neglected; in short, anything that is NOT normal for his behavior.  If this is a one-time thing, well and good, and continue on with -normal- life.  If you see a downward trend in his behavior, try to gently  find out wha might be going on in his life that you don't know about what might be on his mind.  Watch for signs of depression, including outbursts of anger and rage, appetite changes, stayin islated.  These might indicate a chemical imbalance taht hormones may or may not be a part of, or he need for counseling outside the home.  His episode of stealing might be the one time he was caught, and/or a cry for help or attention.

  3. I like to make the punishment relevant to the transgression.

The item that he stole the ear phones for should be taken away permanently.

I would make him donate it to a charity.  When he has to go without something, he might understand a little better what it feels like to have something stolen from him.

  4. start stealing stuff from him and see how he reacts. he'll learn a lesson

  5. Take the ear phones, take the item away from him he took the earphones for in the first place.

Take him to store make him apologise and have him banned from shop at managers discretion. Let him take a friend!

  6. I think you've done enough. I would take serious action (take away everything permantly) if it happens again.

  7. i think youve done enough.

BUt i mean just punishing him isnt alway effective. Did you have a talk with him?

  8. I think that your punishment was enough, stealing is a BIG problem that costs lots of money from stores every year.
