I am deathly afraid of ANY kind of bug. I spray for insects around my house, I constantly clean so I will be free of roaches....but now I read a question about what bed bugs look like and now I am freaked. I change and wash all the sheets on the beds every week. Should I be good not to get them, or should I wash my sheets adn blankets more often than once a week?

  1. These dust mites are so microscopic you would never see or feel or encounter them. They aren't interested in you, just the dead skin that falls off.

Vacuum your mattress once a week (steam cleaning is even better). Wash your linen once a week and as for 'bugs' you'll notice nothing.

edit - Now, escapee is right about genuine bed bugs as compared to dust mites, however they are much less common than in previous decades. I feel sure you would have had bite evidence if you had bedbugs even if you hadn't seen any. Before you get yourself into a panic, ask yourself if you have been bitten (something like itchy little flea bites). If not, then I think there's nothing to worry about.

Bite evidence would indicate a presence and pest control measures would then need to be taken.

  2. Bed bugs are not so tiny. They are about the size of an apple seed, and they have nothing to do with poor hygiene. If what you have are that small they are not bed bugs, more like dust mites. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Even the mattress. Once a week is enough for cleaning the bedding. don't get so freaked out, they are harmless, might cause allergy symptoms, but that is the worst of it.

  3. i think youll be good! also spray your matress with disinfectant stuff like febreeze or lysol before you put you sheets on.

i heard on the radio that bedbugs can be found in books (rarely) so if you are that nervous about them, i wouldnt keep books in the bedrooms.

  4. eewwwww that's made me feel all itchy.

I'd say it was just poor hygiene; a build up of dust and dirt etc and as your constantly cleaning and have fresh sheets often I'm sure you're fine...

There are ways to wash your mattress too, special wet hoovers you can buy and stuff....
