  1. 5 series feels more like a luxury car, 3 series has a sportier suspension/you feel the road more.

  2. a 3 is a girl car and isn't as luxurious as a 5 series ... I love the 5 series because it's sporty and not a tiny girl car

  3. The 3 series will have more of a sporty feel to it.  In my eyes the 3 series is a great car but more of a toy.  The 5 series however is the middle car.  Its between the 3 series and 7 series flagship of BMW''s.  The 5 series will drive sporty to give you that fun sports car feeling but offer more room, comfort, more options and a much more luxurious feeling.  The 5 series would be way more comfortable to on longer drives and better if you have kids.  Again still offering the feel of a sports car behind the wheel to keep you feeling like your in a sports car.  The 5 series has a little more power and speed to it as well as GREAT handling.  Personally I would go for a nice 5 series but again the 3 series is great as well!

    Good Luck!

  4. I have owned a 1998 328is, and I currently have a 2000 M5. There is quite a difference! The 3 series really feels like a small, compact vehicle, but not too small. It feels like you are in complete control of the vehicle at all times, more of a true driving experiance.

The M5 feels like a giant, street legal rocket! It is slightly more comfortable, and the big V8 gives the impression of being slower than the straight 6 found in the 3 series, when driving normally around town. I'm not saying the 5 series feels sluggish, but the engines are very different, and the m5 just feels like a "big car".

Both are extraordinarily fun to drive, it just comes down to preference.

Go test drive a five series, if you already have a BMW, tell them you're considering "upgrading"!
