Question:

How does Canada Post shipping to your house work?

I want to buy something online and get it sent to my house without my parents knowing. Do you think that's possible? I was wondering if you need to sign for the package or something, and if I do have to sign, am I old enough to? (I'm 15) Thanks, all answers appreciated! And sorry if I posted this question in the wrong category, I'm not really sure where it goes.

  1. If you're lucky they won't find out... but chances are they will.

I order stuff online all the time. I live in Montreal by the way. So I've gotten lots of stuff this way.

If someone's home the postman rings the bell and hands over the package. You never know at what time they deliver, but from my experience it's ALWAYS during office hours. Big chances of getting caught by your parents!

If a package is coming from a company as stuff you bought you might have to pay duty. You don't have to pay duty on books but mostly other stuff you do. If this is the case then you will get a note saying to go to the post office to get your stuff and pay the fee.

If there is no duty to pay, nobody's home and the postman thinks he's in a good neighborhood the he might just leave it on your doorstep or at a neighbor's house. BIG chances of someone finding out!

If no one's home you can also get a note saying to go to the post office and there is no duty to pay.

If you have to go get your stuff at the post office, just make sure that you have a photo ID with you because they need proof to give you the package.

If you don't want your parents to find out, send this thing to a friend's house.

    Good luck!

  2. Rose has the process correct - but why are you buying something that you don't want your parents to know about? Where are you going to wear the clothes? Don't you think they will notice somewhere along the line? And what are you going to buy that they will object to?

  3. Yes, ordering of AE will impose duty & tax charges.

    (I've ordered from them before)

It's cheaper to shop in stores instead.

You are old enough to sign, if signature is required.

    So good luck!!
